1. THE ROLE OF THE CAD
The CAD’s approach to identifying, care and treatment of substance dependents is shown by the main goal of the organisation, which is:
“To keep recovering dependents sober, to enable them to develop their potential and to take their place in society again.”
Thereby the CAD accepts that substance dependence is identifiable and treatable and that substance dependents can be assisted physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually to become sober and to stay sober.
In providing such assistance, the CAD accepts that scientifically based approaches are needed for the identification, detoxification, rehabilitation and recovery of the substance dependent. The role of the CAD in dealing with the substance dependent therefore includes the following:
Identification of the dependent for treatment by substance abuse treatment centres;
Financial and practical assistance of the dependent, the relatives involved and/or co-dependents during and after completion of the treatment;
Provision of mutual support, group cohesion and therapeutic growth to the substance dependent and his/her relatives and/or co-dependents, during and after the treatment of such dependence by substance abuse treatment centres.
In co-operation with the government departments and non-governmental organisations (NGO's concerned with the planning, execution and evaluation of the fight against substance dependence, e.g. churches, business organisations, schools and other interested organizations and individuals, the CAD strive to:
Enhance the resistance to dependence-forming substances;
Deliver after-care to recovering substance dependents, their relatives and co-dependents;
In accordance with this understanding of the role and approach, the functioning of the CAD is based on the Bible as the infallible Word of God and in living up to and extending the Christian ethos, principles and way of life.
