STEPS FOR ADMISSION FOR REHABILITATION

If you want a person to be admitted to a private Rehabilitation Centre it is necessary to know the following.

1.    Private treatment - the person's  Medical Aid usually pays the Rehabilitation Centre

1.1    Contact the Rehabilitation Centre to obtain the following information:

1.1.1.1      The earliest date the person can be admitted
1.1.1.2      The Centre's  practice number
1.1.1.3      The doctor's practice number
1.1.1.4      The code for admission

1.2    Keep the following information of the person at hand

1.2.1.1     The name of the Medical Aid and the membership number of the person
1.2.1.2     The date of birth
1.2.1.3     The Rehabilitation Centre's name and practice number
1.2.1.4     The doctor's practice number
1.2.1.5     The code for admission
1.2.1.6     The date of admission

1.3    Contact the Medical Aid and request authorisation and get an authorisation number
The person at the Medical Aid will then ask you for the information under 1.2 above and a authorisation number will be given to you..


1.4    Contact the Rehabilitation Centre again and book the admission for the person


They will ask you for the following information:

1.4.1    The name and surname of the person
1.4.2    What substance/s the person is addicted to
1.4.3    The person's age and date of birth
1.4.4    Name of the Medical Aid
1.4.5    History of the treatment the person has already received
1.4.6    What medication does the person uses at the moment

The admission is now authorised and the Rehabilitation Centre will provide further information about the admission process.

2.     State treatment - Free State treatment is available if a person doesn't have Medical Aid and can't afford private treatment.

2.1    Go to a court (Magistrates Court) and report the case to the clerk of the court and request an investigation in terms of Act 20 of 1990
2.2    You need the following information about the person:
2.2.1    Full name and surname
2.2.2    ID. No. Identification Number
2.2.3    Residential address where the person can be found
2.2.4    What substance/s the person is addicted to
2.3    They will then ask you to sign a sworn statement rtegarding the situation the individual concerned is in and the effects of his or her addiction, financial position etc.
2.4    The statement will be sent  to a social worker, who will investigate the case and file a report
2.5    The report will be sent to the court and if the finding is that the person is addicted to alcohol/drugs, he/she masy be sent for treatment in a State Treatment Centre. It is a long term treatment lasting two and a half months or longer.

NB.  This is a rehabilitation case, which means that no criminal case is opened and the person won't have a criminal record!
